The post surgical pathology results from the Doctor...........
Tuesday - finally I get to call the doctor for the results......I called but he was in surgery. Now just waiting....The doctor was in surgery all day and still took the time to call me at 9:00 at night when he was done. So the verdict - because they found some cancer in the omentum it puts me at a stage 3b
(- there are visible tumor growths on the lining of the abdomen that are 2cm
across or smaller). It hasn't gone into the lymph nodes though. He said that's not the direction we wanted to go but that wouldn't change the treatment. We would still do 6 rounds of chemotherapy (18 weeks) and then they say another 18 weeks to recover. I asked if he still thought that chemotherapy was the best option, he said; definitely we can't beat this if you don't. I asked if finding the cancer in the omentum changes whether it was fallopian tube cancer or not, he said no. There are a lot of lymph nodes in the omentum, its acts like the police for infection and cancer, trying to filter things. If they find cancer in the omentum it usually stems from somewhere else. So, I still have fallopian tube cancer that has spread to the epiploica and the omentum. The ovaries had fluid filled cysts that tested benign. Everything else they tested came back no malignancy. I asked about some numbness and tingling in my right upper thigh, he said; the nerves there are so small and when they get irritated and inflamed because we pushed them out of the way that can happen but it will go away. I mentioned that I'm still in a lot of pain especially on my right side, he explained that that's the port they used to do most of the work so it would hurt more. I'm supposed to continue with my pain meds, ice, massage but eventually it will go away also. I also asked him if there are specific foods I should be eating and he said; just continue what you're doing. He wanted me to get in touch with the chemo doctor tomorrow to get started right away, especially when he thought it was only 8 weeks since they did my first surgery but it wasn't it had been longer, it's been 13 weeks. I forgot to ask a few more questions which I'll call his office about like; 1) does this change the prognosis, 2) how do we know if the treatment is working, 3) what if it recurs, what is the treatment plan then, & 4) should I be thinking about clinical trials.
Wow a lot more to absorb....and think about...
